Co−President’s MessageThe political season is upon us with a vengeance. Political conventions, political ads, political analysis, political pundits, political rhetoric, political jokes...... it’s endless. In fact, it is so endless and so monotonous, that I’m thinking we’re all getting a bit weary, even exhausted. I wonder if there is an affliction with name for this feeling: Acute political overload anxiety disorder, APOAD. Truthfully, it isn’t a disorder to just be sick and tired of all of this noisiness. Trying to wade through the claims and counterclaims, the exuberant and combative attitudes and tones, the clamor and ‘in your face’ stridentcy of the campaigns is not only discouraging but daunting and confusing. Thanks to your local chapter of the League of Women Voters, however, we are striving to cut through that bombastic pontificating and getting to the root of the issues and the essence of the candidates. The league’s mission is to provide clear, concise, informative forums and publications for you the voters. To help you and the other citizens of our county, the league will be hosting two public forums. Check the league calendar for the dates and be sure and attend. The first will be on the Colorado ballot issues, the second will be the candidate forums for the county officials. In addition, Empire Electric Assoc. has funded the purchase of more than 2000 League blue books detailing each of the proposed ballot issues. Pro and con arguments for each and basic, plain English phrasing of those proposed amendments makes easy understanding of those complex issues. Be sure and get a copy. Jodi Foran and I would be happy to provide you with as many as you would like in order to hand out to friends, family, organizations, and businesses in the county. The more informed each of us is, the better. As a league we also continue to fight for the right of every citizen to cast a ballot and have their vote count. Join us in our efforts by being present, informed, and caring. Your energy and support are so important to keep our democracy strong and sound. — Lou Burkett
