Member Profile − Terri HelmTerri Helm joined the league about four years ago at the urging of a friend. She’s stayed with us because she “needs to be informed and the league is where to get correct information.” Terri’s interest in people and causes goes way back to her days in Thailand as a Peace Corp volunteer teaching English. Later, as a high school counselor at M−CHS, she developed the Student Assistance Program that gave students with challenging lives an outlet for their stresses and distresses. Since 2003 she has supported the Teen Maze, a yearly event designed to help teenagers understand the problems and choices they will face growing up. You are likely to have seen her on the corner of Main and Market with the “Occupy” protestors. I saw her last in Mancos at the Move to Amend Rally. “Lots of people were there that weren’t us,” she said. While few followed the caravan up to Dolores, Terri was happy to see the two “people under the age of 30” who showed up. She gave them hugs and told them how glad she was to see them. Terri’s a world traveler and a busy lady. Hope you get a chance to meet her. —Reported by Janet Chanay |
